In A Landscape
In A Landscape is a collaboration with Dutch harpist Dorienne Marselje where music, light and technology meet.
Danny Griffioen directed a new video including Doriene and the installation. You can find his work on vimeo.com/dannygriffioen.
Doriene created a new show based on contemporary repertoire for solo harp, with compositions where she searches for the bounds of her instrument with for example extended techniques. Combining the familliar sound of the harp with analog effects she creates a whole new sound dimension.
For this show a custom audiovisual light installation was designed. It was specially designed to create a new experience that is not only based on sound. The installation hears what she is playing and responds in an instant with beautiful ever-changing light landscapes.
“The design is 3D-printed to keep it light and realise complex shapes.”

The installation consists of 30 induvidualy placable smart lights. A controlebox converts the audio into usable data for these lights. This means the lights react directly on the frequenties of the harp. Marcel Flipse designed custom PCB’s to realise that. These PCB’s are intergated in the heads of the lights. The design is 3D-printed to keep it light and realise complex shapes. 3D-printing is a very interesting method to speed up the developping proces of a concept.

Today we celebrated the first official performance by Doriene and In A Landscape. Dorienne was invited to play at the Dutch Harp Festival in TivoliVredenburg with her installation. She played a livestream without an audience because of COVID, but the location and the production really made up for that.
